Help & FAQ

The most common questions about shopping, bidding, payments, pickup, shipping, and selling on EstateSail.

How EstateSail Works

EstateSail is a marketplace for estate sales. Estate sale companies, liquidators, and individuals list sales and items here, and shoppers can browse, bid, and buy. Some sales sell at fixed prices ("Buy It Now"), some run as auctions, and some combine both.

When you buy or win a lot, you complete payment through a secure payment processor (Stripe or Square). The seller is responsible for fulfillment — pickup or shipping — based on the options shown on the sale.

Browsing and Following Sales

You can browse all live sales from the marketplace home page. Sales near you appear first when your account has a saved address.

Following a sale (the heart icon on the sale page) saves it to your account and opts you in to optional notifications when the sale goes live, when new items are added, and when items you watched change.

Buying an Item

Click an item to add it to your cart. When you are ready, open the cart and check out. You will enter your contact and shipping or pickup information, and pay through Stripe or Square depending on the sale.

Inventory can move quickly. Items are not reserved until checkout is completed and the order is confirmed. If two shoppers race for the same item, the first to complete checkout wins it.

Bidding in an Auction

On auction lots, you place a maximum bid (a "proxy bid"). EstateSail will automatically bid on your behalf up to that amount, increasing only as needed to keep you on top. You can raise your max bid at any time before the lot closes.

When a lot closes, the highest valid bidder at or above the reserve wins. Winners receive an email with payment instructions and have a limited window to pay before their lot may be released to other bidders.

Pickup and Shipping

Pickup details are set by the seller and shown on each sale page. Bring identification and your order number. Arrive within the seller's stated window, with the right vehicles and helpers for what you are picking up.

When shipping is offered, the seller (or a shipping service the seller uses) is responsible for packing, handling, and tracking. Costs and timelines are shown at checkout.

Returns and Refunds

All sales are final. Items are sold "AS IS, WHERE IS" — there are no warranties or guarantees of any kind, and EstateSail and Sellers do not offer returns, refunds, or exchanges except in narrow situations such as a duplicate charge, a verified payment-processing error, or where applicable law requires a refund.

For full details, see the Returns & Refunds page or the Returns section of our Terms of Service.

Payments and Fees

Payments are processed by Stripe or Square depending on the sale. EstateSail does not store full payment card numbers.

Order totals can include item prices, taxes, service fees, processing fees, and shipping. All charges are shown clearly at checkout before you confirm. If you spot a discrepancy, email support@estatesail.us within 15 business days of the purchase so we can investigate.

Selling on EstateSail

Estate sale companies and individual sellers can list sales and items on EstateSail. To get started, create an account, connect Stripe or Square for payouts, and add a sale.
